Village Connections

Welcome to Village Connections

Village-connections a space for collaboration between people interested in:

  • local development that balances socio-cultural, economic and ecological (triple-bottom line) factors.
  • developing a methodology: for all interested in these projects to communicate in order to see more – both the problems and possibilities.

New Creative Social Science for Chosen Quality Futures is a post-doctoral project. The research aims to further develop a new locally-grounded cosmopolitan, transdisciplinary methodology. This methodology focuses on communication within and between localities, policy and academia. It deploys a screen-based local development platform (film and Internet), one that blends European and Aotearoa/New Zealand concepts, and aims to engage diverse audiences in inclusive processes.
A developmental communication triangle symbolises the method: Village Connections icon

The project is funded by BRCSS and based at the Social Science Research Centre, University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Village Conversations

Village-connections is all about developing conversations to broaden mutual horizons of developmental knowledge and its practical implementation.

Developing some features for this website has been taking longer than expected. The aim is now to launch in September 2008.

There are to be three areas for this throughout the site to build the village converstions.

Making Connections:

What has been sparking our interest? What connections are happening?...

Visiting Cairo and Alexandria... more

Meeting Scott Lash in London...more

The Village Connections Project was presented at 'Europe since 1989: Interpreting social change' - 10th anniversary Conference of the European Journal of Social Theory. What might a social theory conference based in Europe have to do with my post doc project - you may well ask?...more

At the School of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Canterbury we celebrated the recent success at their Ph.D. oral examinations... more

Knowledge Horizons

This will be a reflective space for studied contributions - essays, articles, research reports and summaries. Text, audio, video or links will be invited for submission.

Village Square Conversations

This will be a space like a village square where people can meet, share their views and suggestions and build connections around creating the kinds of places they would like to live in.

This forum is to be launched in September 2008. In the meantime, we would be very interested to read any views or information you would like to share with us. Please send these to yourviews@village-connections.com.
